How to get help this Mental Health Week

How to get help this Queensland Mental Health Week: tips from our Psychologist at the Open Minds Mental Health Hub at Morayfield

This year, Queensland Mental Health Week is being celebrated from Saturday 6 October to Sunday 14 October 2018.

Mental Health Week is a great reminder to take notice of those around you, and to take good care of your overall health and wellbeing.

The Open Minds Mental Health Hub at Morayfield has qualified psychologists and counsellors who are experienced and trained to help you if you’re having a rough time.

Ryan Dixon, Psychologist at the Open Minds Mental Health Hub, recommends talking to friends and family about how you are feeling as a first port of call.

Ryan said: “If you are in crisis or in danger, or if you have seriously harmed yourself, call triple zero (000) for emergency services. If you do not need immediate assistance but you do need help, it is a good idea to talk to your friends and family about how you are feeling. They can give you the support you need while you work through the issues you are dealing with. If you aren’t comfortable talking to people that are close to you, visit your local doctor or healthcare professional. They will be able to provide referrals and direct you to more support if you need it.”

The Open Minds Mental Health Hub is located on the first floor at 19-31 Dickson Road in Morayfield, and is available to patients with a mental health care plan and referral, as well as the option for private, low-cost appointments for those without a referral.

Ryan added: “Common symptoms of mental illness may include: poor sleep, problems with sex life, problems with personal relationships, loneliness, feeling down, anxiousness, recurring  memories, grief, feelings of anger, excessive drug taking, excessive drinking, violence, gambling. If you think you have, or someone close to you, might have a mental illness, it is important to get help before things get worse.”

Another benefit of the Open Minds Mental health Hub at Morayfield is the easy access to other health care services within the wider Health Hub, such as GPs, Rehabilitation, X-Ray, Minor accident and illness, and more.
