The 2011 Melbourne Cup carnival has come to a conclusion for another year, after living up to all the expectations. There was many a close race over the course of the racing carnival, the nail biter being the almost-too-close to call Emirates Melbourne Cup, with Dunaden taking the honours. Congratulations to all the winners.
One of the big winners in Brisbane were the clients of Open Minds Do It Club. With over 210 people in attendance at our Charity Luncheon on Melbourne Cup day we are very pleased to announce that our overall net is $17,000 - what an incredible result from a room full of generous and kind people!
Do It Club – a client led and client facilitated group for people living with a mental illness – focuses on empowering participants to live a life of their choice. Do It Club reduces the sense of isolation that many of our clients experience and promotes active involvement in the wider community.
Thank you once again to all who joined us at The Strand on 1 November, and to all our prize supporters, sponsors and volunteers who helped bring together our Melbourne Cup Charity Luncheon.
