13-19 August 2012
Brain Injury Awareness Week (BIAW) is a global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain injury and research. In Australia, this year’s theme is around sports related brain injury.
Over 1.6 million Australians (over 1 in 12) are affected by Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), and those aged between 18 – 24 years of age are the most at risk of injury.
Open Minds provides a specialist ABI support service. We provide individuals with responsive and flexible community based day to day rehabilitation planning and lifestyle supports alongside and supplementary to their medical and allied health support needs. Individual plans provide opportunities for clients and their families to establish goals and develop innovative and flexible supports to promote mental, emotional and physical wellbeing, and encourage independence and social inclusion.
Open Minds will be holding a range of events across the week to promote awareness of ABI, including a music session on Sunday 19 August (further details to come – please check back)
If you would like to know more, or to find out how you can host your own event to raise money or awareness of ABI and Open Minds, phone Josie Cole on (07) 3896 4246 or send an email.
