Residential support

Open Minds Residential Support Service offers a range of innovative and modern models of accommodation supporting optimal choice, self-determination, flexibility and opportunities for people with high and complex support needs.

Our model of accommodation support ensures each client has choice in their accommodation and co-tenants and individual planning encourages the enhancement of life skills, active participation in their local community and close family involvement.

Our service supports individuals from 18 to 70 years with a diverse range of support needs from high to low care. We successfully support young people transitioning from care and older individuals living with aged carers who are transitioning into independent living for the first time.

The service delivers specialist residential support under two models – a range of 24/7 supported co-tenancy models and in-home residential support. We support a number of 24/7 houses located throughout Brisbane in a range of co-tenancy models with full disability access. Duplex or single accommodation, the homes are provided by the Department of Communities – Housing and Homelessness Services and each client holds their own lease to the accommodation. Additionally, in-home residential supports are provided to individuals residing in their own homes in Brisbane.

We are committed to supporting each client to establish a real home from which they can be autonomous, fulfill their personal goals and participate in community life. Families are supported and encouraged to take an active role in their family members’ life which has seen families bond and build new and lasting relationships with co-tenants. Social activities, work, educational and personal development courses are all part of our clients’ individual weekly plans ensuring that community inclusion, individual accomplishment and achievement are part of daily living in a supported residential environment.
